HGV Driver Training

Our HGV driver training will open doors to a selection of future employment opportunities, providing you with the licence category needed to operate vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes.

7.5 Tonne Training

At Pure Driving, we offer tailored C1 courses which enable drivers to safely drive larger vehicles, such as 7.5-tonne trucks. Our specialist 7.5-tonne training is available as a 1, 2 or 3-day course depending on your requirements. This means that regardless of whether you are a complete beginner or have some experience driving larger vehicles, our highly recommended instructor can help you to pass your test the first time.

Throughout your 7.5-tonne training course, you will be taught how to drive a C1 category three-vehicle safely and how to perform a range of manoeuvres, which you will be tested on during your final exam. Our DVSA fleet instructors will prepare you for your test by covering all of the potential topics that your examiner may assess you on. This will include:

  • Teaching you how to check and analyse your driving licence
  • Discussing and understanding at least five vehicle safety questions
  • Learning and mastering the S manoeuvre to test standard
  • Practising driving a 7.5 tonne HGV on various roads

Tailoring Your 7.5 Tonne Training Course

Before beginning your 7.5-tonne training course, your instructor will spend time getting to know your requirements, driving skills and confidence on the roads. This will then enable them to structure your training, ensuring that extra time is allocated to any areas that you feel may need a little extra work. During your course, your instructor will also teach you how to complete all of the necessary safety checks with an HGV, ensuring that the vehicle is safe to use and roadworthy.

If you already have experience driving larger vehicles and see yourself as a confident driver, then you may only need a one day course. This is mainly designed to refresh your knowledge and prepare you for your test. There are specific factors that you must prove your competence in, so your instructor will run through the skills that your examiner will expect to see.

For others who are starting from scratch, we would recommend our three-day course, as this will allow plenty of time to run through each aspect in detail. You will also have more freedom to practice areas that you are struggling with so that you enter your test feeling confident.
